There remains one more unique case within the group of dulcimers without bridges, the second instrument in Martin le Franc's Muses; it has the form of two linked circles, or a figure-of-eight, a shape used for a few early nyckelharpor (40), but otherwise rather rare.

Its depth is similar to that of its counterpart in the same miniature, but has only three strings, set so close together that one again has the feeling that this might have been a drone instrument, a 'lap-tambourin'.
