It appears that a portable cimbal is known in Slovenia and West Croatia, the areas nearest to Austria, but to what extent there is musical influence across the border is not known; in Serbia, next to Hungary and Transylvania, a pedal-cimbal is apparently also played.

It seems that the instrument is generally enough known for the artist Mijo Kovacic to have examined one closely before painting his beautiful caricature.
