The last group of sources consists of works written in rather more detail than the brief references listed above: five printed treatises on instruments, intended for instruction of younger generations of musicians - that is to say, actually written with an eye to recording for the future - and two mss, apparently intended more as personal records; it may well be that these were not made with the thought of anyone from a later era taking their contents as evidence of their authors' experiences or life-styles.
